I’m not a regular Moth listener. I check in from time to time. It’s usually to remind myself why everyone likes these “stories behind the stories.” Episode 1402 quickly jogged my memory.
Andy Borowitz talks about his colon Ad nauseam
The first story, titled “Father’s Day,” felt like an urban legend. I’m not calling anybody out here; I don’t think verisimilitude is a prerequisite on these things. And by no means do I intend to spoil. But you’ll see what I’m talking about should you decide to listen.
“Just One Drink” was a sweet recounting of a one-night stand that, much to the storyteller’s surprise, turned into something else. This one really stuck with me, much more than the others. It was complex on the surface, as it dealt with same-sex coupling, but the overall vibe was nothing but warm fuzzies.
“Lost and Found Daughter” was engaging enough. But I’m going to be perfectly honest here. My attention tends to flag a bit during the third act… of anything. I know this story was about a young woman coming out to her Korean birth parents, but that’s about all I got.
“An Unexpected Twist,” by Andy Borowitz, will make your skin crawl–straight up. I guess it was funny, but the subject matter got so “bowely” that I found it hard to muster up a giggle. The life lesson at the end kind of brought it back around. And I guess it lent some justification to Borowitz’s public disclosure of graphic information about his malfunctioning gastrointestinal track, but it sort of felt like he tacked the moral on at the end to legitimize his grosser-than-gross medical misadventure too. Either way, I was rapt. Great finish.
